    Tujuan penulisan makalah ini ialah menginformasikan mengenai keberadaan penyakit busuk lunak (pbl) pada anggrek dan upaya pengendaliannya. Ruang lingkup subtansi pembahasan mencakup arti ekonomi, epidemiologi, gejala serangan, karakteristik isolat secara morfologi, biokimia dan upaya pengendaliannya dengan mengacu hasil penelitian yang dilakukan di dalam dan luar negeri. Dari studi literatur diketahui bahwa karakteristik gejala serangan pbl mula-mula akan menampakkan bercak luka hijau kekuningan (water soaked lesions) pada organ yang terserang, kemudian luka tersebut berkembang dengan sangat cepat hingga menyebabkan pembusukan jaringan. Berdasarkan uji biokimia dan lopat, penyakit tersebut disebabkan oleh Dickeya dadantii (Erwinia chrysanthemi) dan Pseudomonas viridiflava. Karakteristik isolat D. dadantii ialah menunujukan warna koloni kream pada media Nutrient agar dan King's B. Di samping itu pathogen ini memproduksi levan dan menghidrolisa arginin. Sedangkan P. viridiflava, menunjukkan warna koloni hijau berpendar (fluorescens) bila dibiakan pada media King's B, tidak menghidrolisa arginine, dan tidak memproduksi levan. Pengendalian pbl dapat dilakukan melalui penggunaan varietas toleran, tanaman transgenic, bakterisida kimia sintetik, bakteri endosimbion dan bakteri antagonis.
